ORDER OF WORSHIP
September 27, 2015

Call to Worship: Proverbs 21:1-2; 30-31
Pastor: The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; he turns it wherever he will.
People: Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the heart.
Pastor: To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.
People: No wisdom, no understanding, no counsel can avail against the Lord.
All: The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but the victory belongs to the Lord.

Prayer of Adoration:

Old Testament Lesson: Psalm 124

Song: O For A Thousand Tongues To Sing Hymn 164 v.1-4

Song: In the Shadow of the Glorious Cross CCLI #5133895

In the shadow of the glorious cross, compelled by grace to cast my lot
I’ll discard the loss and bare your name, forsaking all for your own fame.

Your hymn of grace sung over me, abounding forth in glorious streams
My thirst is quenched by you my Lord, sustained am I, redeemed, restored
Sustained am I, redeemed, restored

CHORUS: Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

When death’s dark shadow’s at my feet, when I am plagued by unbelief
You place my hands into your side, by precious blood identified
By precious blood identified

These crowns I’ve clenched with fisted hands, I cast the down before the throne
Of Christ my God, the worthy lamb, Christ crucified, the Great I AM
Christ crucified, the Great I AM, Christ crucified, the Great I AM

New Testament Lesson: Ephesians 4:17-27

Corporate Prayer of Confession:

Almighty God, we confess how hard it is to be Your people. You have called us to be the Church, to continue the mission of Jesus Christ to our lonely and confused world. Yet we acknowledge we are more apathetic than active, isolated than involved, callous than compassionate, obstinate than obedient, legalistic than loving.

Gracious Lord, have mercy upon us and forgive our sins. Remove the obstacles preventing us from being Your representatives to a broken world. Awaken our hearts to the promised gift of Your indwelling Spirit. This we pray in Jesus’ powerful name. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon: Romans 7:24-25

Song of Response: I Know Whom I Have Believed Hymn 705 v.1-4

Scripture Reading and Prayer for the Church:
Dr. Bud Lancaster, Ruling Elder Matthew 4:1-25

Preaching of the Word: Dr. Michael Calvert, Teaching Elder
“The Sixth Commandment: You Shall Not Murder, Part Two” Exodus 20:13

Prayer of Preparation:

Confession of Faith: The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father, Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth: And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary: Suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead and buried: He descended into hell: The third day he rose again from the dead: He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty: From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost: The holy universal church: The communion of saints: The forgiveness of sins: The resurrection of the body: And the life everlasting. Amen.

Communion*:

Song: Holy, Holy, Holy Hymn 100 v.1-4

Benediction:
*Professing and baptized members in good standing of a Church in which Jesus Christ is proclaimed as Lord and Savior are warmly invited to join us in the celebration of the Lord’s Supper.
