Call to Worship: Psalm 95:6-7

Prayer of Adoration and the Lord’s Prayer:

Song: O Come and Mourn With Me Awhile – CCLI# 4199328

O come and mourn with me awhile, o come ye to the Savior’s side
O come together let us mourn, Jesus our Lord is crucified
Seven times he spake seven words of love; all all three hours his silence cried
For mercy on the souls of men; Jesus our Lord is crucified

CHORUS:
O Love of God! O sin of man! In this dread act your strength is tried
And victory remains with love, Jesus our Lord is crucified

O break, O break, hard heart of mine! They weak self-love and guilty pride
His Pilate and His Judas were: Jesus our Lord is crucified
A broken heart, a fount of tears, ask and they will not be denied
A broken heart love’s cradle is, Jesus our Lord is crucified

Song: Dear Refuge of My Weary Soul – CCLI #3112430

Dear refuge of my weary soul, on Thee, when sorrows rise
On Thee, when waves of trouble roll, my fainting hope relies
To Thee I tell each rising grief, for Thou alone canst heal
Thy Word can bring a sweet relief, for every pain I feel

But oh, when gloomy doubts prevail I fear to call Thee mine
The springs of comfort seem to fail, and all my hopes decline
Yet gracious God, where shall I flee, Thou art my only trust
And still my soul would cleave to Thee, though prostrate in the dust

Hast Thou not bid me seek Thy face, and shall I seek in vain
And can the ear of sovereign grace, be deaf when I complain
No still the ear of sovereign grace attends the mourner’s prayer
Oh may I ever find access to breathe my sorrows there

Thy mercy seat is open still, here let my soul retreat
With humble hope attend Thy will, and wait beneath Thy feet
Thy mercy seat is open still, here let my soul retreat
With humble hope attend Thy will, and wait beneath Thy feet

Third Scripture Reading: Hebrews 10:19-25

Confession of Faith: The Heidelberg Catechism

Q 40: Why was it necessary for Christ to suffer “death”?
A: Because the justice and truth of God required that satisfaction for our sins could be made in no other way than by the death of the Son of God.

Q 43. What further benefit do we receive from the sacrifice and death of Christ on the cross?
A: That by His power our old man is with Him crucified, slain, and buried; so that the evil lusts of the flesh may no more reign in us, but that we may offer ourselves unto Him a sacrifice of thanksgiving.
