Sermon Preview

Friday October 19, 2018

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

This coming Lord’s Day we will continue to consider Colossians 3:8-17 where Paul’s subject is the “new self,” which is the new person we have become in Christ Jesus. (v. 10).

As we have discovered, this “new self” is identified by several very beautiful attributes, or virtues, which Paul has placed before us in verses 12-13. We have studied each of these carefully over the last few weeks.

Last Lord’s Day, we saw how these virtues lead to certain actions that we are to engage in as we relate to one another within the Church: “bearing with one another” and “forgiving each other” (v. 13).

On Sunday, our focus will be upon verse 14 where Paul declares: “And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.” In this one little inspired sentence, the Apostle is summarizing how we get along as new creations in God’s grace! It has to do with “love”!

I can’t wait to explore this rich theme with you this Lord’s Day!

Before I go, let me highlight three very important upcoming events:

This Sunday evening October 21 at 6:00 PM we will have a special time of music in recognition of Reformation Day. Our music team, along with Dr. Carol Bart and Rich Bagdazian, will lead us in a selection of hymns that bring to light the rich history of the Reformed faith in a time of congregational singing. In addition, a variety of special selections will be presented by musicians in our congregation. Join us for this special evening and invite a neighbor! A Nursery is provided.

On Sunday October 28 there will be a New Member & Visitor’s Luncheon immediately after worship at the home of Rich and Christina Bagdazian, 2614 Legacy Preserve Dr. SE, Brownsboro. Be sure to sign up this Sunday at the information desk in the Nathex.

On Sunday November 11 and November 18 the Session will be receiving Nominations for the Offices of Elder and Deacon.  All Communing CPC members are eligible to nominate qualified men for these positions.  The Nominees should be men who meet the Biblical requirements for these offices as well as the responsibilities as outlined in the Book of Church Order. First, let me ask you to begin praying about this most important task.  Next week I will send out a special note to the Church outlining the details of this process, and I will also be highlighting some of the duties and requirements of these two Church offices.

May our Father bless and keep you until we meet on Sunday!

I love you all so very much,

Mike
