Announcements and Order of Worship – April 26 2019

Sermon Preview

Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Lord,

This coming Lord’s Day we will be privileged to have Matthew Elliott in our pulpit. Matthew will be preaching from Luke 18:9-14, the account of our Lord’s parable of the Pharisee and the tax-collector. As you may remember, this beloved parable was told by Jesus not only to instruct His disciples concerning prayer, but also to teach them how sinners are able to stand before the Lord, despite their sins. In fact, Jesus will speak here of being “justified” before God (v. 14), and this forms the heart of the Gospel message which is developed later by Paul, most prominently in Romans.

Please lift up Matthew in your prayers, and take some time to reacquaint yourself with this passage. I look forward to leading our worship and sitting under the preaching of God’s Word!

Officer Elections on May 5

As we announced a couple of weeks ago, we will be having elections for the offices of Ruling Elder and Deacon on Sunday May 5th following our morning worship. Next week, I will be introducing you to the candidates that have been nominated by the Church, trained and approved by the Session, and whose names will appear on the ballot. Please pray fervently for this process as we seek God’s will concerning our Church leaders.

Church Picnic This Sunday Afternoon!

Finally, I hope to see you all at our annual Church Picnic this Sunday afternoon at 4:00 PM at Monte Sano State Park. We are looking forward to a blessed time of fellowship together, and please invite guests to come as well!

I love you all and can’t wait to worship our Lord with you this Sunday!

Mike

Youth Group: Youth Group for ages 13-18 meets for the final time this year on May 5 at the church at 4:30 PM.

Parents Night Out: We are excited to be having a Parent’s Night Out on Friday, April 26th from 5:30 – 7:30 pm. The event is a great time for our children to be together with their church family and will include games, crafts, dinner and short teaching on Christian life from Hebrews 12. We will send out a reminder email closer to the date but please consider participating or volunteering. We will need 12-15 volunteers and it’s a wonderful way for all ages (teen to retired) to get to know the children and serve our parents.
Please use this link to VOLUNTEER or RSVP your childrenhttp://evite.me/R1k5weXa8z .
Email Meghan directly w/ questions. It’s going to be a BLAST!

VBS: It is THAT time! I have the signup LIVE for VBS 2019: Summer Seaquest! We will study Jonah and his journey from rebellion to repentance – it’s going to be so great! As always, I need lots of folks willing to step into leadership roles. I cannot do this without you. Last year, we had 70+ kids. Please pray about this! A few reminders about our set-up:

*The age groups are “completed grade,” so for example, preK group is “completed preK” aged children.
*Grade level leaders do NOT have to teach. You are more like a crew leader, taking your group around to the various centers.
*Storytellers stay in one room, dress in costume, and tell one aspect of the bible story each day. They are like “eye witnesses” to give the children a perspective from our story/theme.

We will hold a leadership meeting in May.
