Sermon Preview:

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Hebrews 11:5 tells us about the mysterious Old Testament saint named “ Enoch.” This man, whose story is first recorded in Genesis 5:19-24, is the second person set forth in Hebrews 11 as a worthy example of persevering faith in Christ.

What’s really remarkable about this man is that, according to Scripture, he did not die! This places him in the same category as Elijah, the only two people in the Bible who never experienced physical death.

While Elijah was taken “ up by a whirlwind to heaven” (2 Kings 2:1), Enoch simply vanished! He “ walked with God; and he was not” (Genesis 5:24).

The author of Hebrews gives us a little more insight into what really happened to Enoch:

By faith Enoch was taken up so that he would not see death; and he was not found because God took him up; for before he was taken up, he was attested to have been pleasing to God” (11:5).

This coming Lord’s Day, we will meet this ‘hero of faith’ as we consider the inspired words of Hebrews 11:5.

Until then, let’s pray that we, too, might learn to walk with our Lord and Savior more closely!

I love you all so much,

Mike
