Sermon Preview:

Brothers and Sisters in the Lord,

As we learned last Sunday from Hebrews 12:18-22, mountains figure very significantly in the Scripture’s unfolding plan of redemption. In these verses, the author contrast two of those important mountains, Sinai, and Zion.

Mount Sinai was only physical, was associated with the Old Covenant, was a place of dread and fear for the covenant people (and even for Moses!), and became the pattern for Solomon’s temple in Jerusalem.

On the other hand, Mount Zion is not a mountain in the way that Sinai was. This mountain is also a city and a temple! In verse 22 it is depicted as “the city of the living God,” and as “the heavenly Jerusalem.”

What could these special designations for Mount Zion mean? And how could understanding them help us now as we serve our Lord ‘on the battlefield’?

This Lord’s Day we will probe more fully the wonder and glory of Mount Zion, which is also “the heavenly Jerusalem” and our eternal home! Our sermon text will be Hebrews 12:22-23, and I can’t wait to explore these inspired words with you!

I love you all with all of my heart,

Mike
