Sermon Preview:

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

One of the greatest joys and blessings we could ever have as a Church family is in seeing one of our own young men, one of our ‘covenant children,’ pursuing God’s call to the Gospel ministry.   As you know, Gannon Miles (son of Scott and Stefanie Miles, and grand-son of Emily Ashcraft) is one of these young, God-called men.

Gannon is currently a Master of Divinity student at Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi (you’ll remember that we pray for him each Lord’s Day in worship).  Gannon is also a ministry candidate under the oversight of our Session and our Presbytery, and, following his graduation from seminary, he will be seeking a place of ministry and preparing for his exams for licensure and ordination.

This coming Sunday, Gannon will be preaching for us from 1 John 5:1-5.  The Session has provided this opportunity for Gannon to preach for us as a critical component of his ministry training.  As you can imagine, it is both a privilege and a daunting task to preach to the ‘home crowd’ in your home town!

Gannon’s sermon is entitled, ‘Who Shall Overcome the World?’  Providentially, it will be right in line with the encouragements and challenges we have encountered in our current study of Jude.  I know that you will all be in fervent and expectant prayer for Gannon as he delivers God’s Word to us!   I look forward to hearing what the Lord has to say to me from this passage!

I love you all and can’t wait to see you on Sunday!

Mike

A Special Announcement from Our Deacons Regarding Service Opportunities

The Deacon Yokefellow Ministry

The Deacons of CPC are looking for church members who are willing to help them form several teams that will comprise the Deacon Yokefellow Ministry. The primary function of this Ministry is to work alongside our Deacons as ‘yokefellows’ (i.e., companions helping to bear the yoke) in service to the Lord, and will include opportunities for any of our church members – whether they are individuals, couples or families.

This Ministry includes teams such as Communion Setup/cleanup, Sound Team, Video Team, Widows Support, Fellowship Coffee setup/cleanup, and Facility Support (Lights, Radios, etc.). In addition to the Greeters Ministry, the Deacon Yokefellows Ministry provides other tangible and accessible ways to serve and support the work and worship of the church. Sign-up sheets will be made available in the Church Narthex beginning August 14th; training will be provided by the Diaconate for all the Yokefellow teams beginning in mid-September. You can reach out to John Dragash at johndragash@yahoo.com  for more information.
