SERMON PREVIEW:

My Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Lord,
This coming Sunday, we will continue traveling along with Dr. Luke as we follow his inspired record of the life and ministry of our Savior.
Our sermon text will be taken from Luke 9:1-6.  It is in this passage that we find our Lord sending out the men He had summoned personally to be His Disciples and witnesses.  In verse 2, Luke tells us that Jesus “sent” them out to conduct a ministry that would be patterned after His.
This term “sent” is the word from which we get ‘apostle.’  The Apostles of Jesus, then, were the men directly commissioned by Him who witnessed first-hand His ministry as well as His death and resurrection. Here, they are dispatched into the region of Galilee in order to “proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal” (v. 2).
As you read this passage you’ll see that Jesus gives the Disciples some very interesting, if not odd, instructions before they go out (vv. 3-5). Why would Jesus speak this way and make such demands of them?
Within this passage we will discover two very important connection points. First, this passage will show us what our corporate mission is as a local body of Christ. Secondly, we will discover how we are to conduct our individual lives as those who have not only been made recipients of the saving grace and power of Jesus, but have also been ‘sent’ into the world by our Lord.
I can’t wait for Sunday to get here!
May our Father bless you all until we meet before Him, and remember that I love you all dearly,
Mike
