ORDER OF WORSHIP
August 9, 2015

Call to Worship: Psalm 100
Pastor: Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!
People: Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing!
Pastor: Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
People: Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!
All: For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.

Prayer of Adoration:

Old Testament Lesson: 2 Samuel 12:1-7

Song: Praise to the Lord, the Almighty Hymn 53 v.1,3-5

Song: More Love to Thee, O Christ Hymn 649 v.1,2,4

New Testament Lesson: Ephesians 4:29-5:2

Confession of Sin:

Lord God, eternal and Almighty Father, I acknowledge and confess before Your holy Majesty that I am spiritually poor and needy, conceived and born in guilt and corruption, prone to do evil, unable of myself to do any good. I confess with the Apostle Paul that I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord, who loved me, and gave Himself for me.

Assurance of Pardon: 1 Peter 1:18-19

Song: Dear Refuge of My Weary Soul CCLI #3112430

Dear refuge of my weary soul, on Thee, when sorrows rise
On Thee, when waves of trouble roll, my fainting hope relies
To Thee I tell each rising grief, for Thou alone canst heal
Thy Word can bring a sweet relief, for every pain I feel

But oh, when gloomy doubts prevail I fear to call Thee mine
The springs of comfort seem to fail, and all my hopes decline
Yet gracious God, where shall I flee, Thou art my only trust
And still my soul would cleave to Thee, though prostrate in the dust

Hast Thou not bid me seek Thy face, and shall I seek in vain
And can the ear of sovereign grace, be deaf when I complain
No still the ear of sovereign grace attends the mourner’s prayer
Oh may I ever find access to breathe my sorrows there

Thy mercy seat is open still, here let my soul retreat
With humble hope attend Thy will, and wait beneath Thy feet
Thy mercy seat is open still, here let my soul retreat
With humble hope attend Thy will, and wait beneath Thy feet

Scripture Reading and Prayer for the Church:
Fred Fohrell, Ruling Elder James 2:1-26

Preaching of the Word: Dr. Michael Calvert, Teaching Elder
“The Third Commandment: The Sacred Name” Exodus 20:7

Confession of Faith: The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father, Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth: And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary: Suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead and buried: He descended into hell: The third day he rose again from the dead: He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty: From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost: The holy universal church: The communion of saints: The forgiveness of sins: The resurrection of the body: And the life everlasting. Amen.

Communion*:

Song: Hark! The Voice of Love and Mercy CCLI# 2793362

Hark, the voice of love and mercy, sounds aloud from Calvary!
See it rends the rocks asunder; shakes the earth and veils the sky!
“It is finished, it is finished,” hear the dying Savior cry.
“It is finished, it is finished,” hear the dying Savior cry.

“It is finished,” o what pleasure do these charming words afford.
Heavenly blessings without measure flow to us from Christ the Lord.
“It is finished, it is finished,” saints the dying words record.
“It is finished, it is finished,” saints the dying words record.

Finished all the types and shadows of the ceremonial law.
Finished all that God had promised, death and hell no more shall awe.
“It is finished, it is finished,” saints from hence your comfort draw.
“It is finished, it is finished,” saints from hence your comfort draw.

Tune your harps anew, ye seraphs, join to sing the pleasing theme
Saints of earth and all in heaven join to praise Immanuel’s name.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Glory to the bleeding lamb!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Glory to the bleeding lamb!

Benediction:
