ORDER OF WORSHIP
November 8, 2015

Call to Worship: Psalm 146:5

Prayer of Adoration:

Old Testament Lesson: 1 Kings 17:8-16

Song: By Thy Mercy

Jesus, Lord of life and glory, Bend from Heav’n Thy gracious ear;
While our waiting souls adore Thee, Friend of helpless sinners, hear:
From the depth of nature’s blindness, From the hardening power of sin,
From all malice and unkindness, From the pride that lurks within:

Chorus: By Thy mercy, O deliver us, good Lord.
By Thy mercy, O deliver us, good Lord, good Lord.

When temptation sorely press, in the day of Satan’s power
In our times of deep distresses, in each dark and trying hour
When the world around is smiling, In the time of wealth and ease,
Earthly joys our hearts beguiling, In the day of health and peace,

In the weary hours of sickness, in the times of grief and pain
When we feel our mortal weakness, when all human help is vain
In the solemn hour of dying, In the awful judgment day,
May our souls, on Thee relying, Find Thee still our Rock and Stay

Song: The Church’s One Foundation Hymn 347 v.1-2,5-6

New Testament Lesson: Hebrews 9:24-28

Confession of Faith: The Westminster Confession of Faith, 8.2

The Son of God, the second person of the Trinity, being truly and eternally God, of one substance and equal with the Father, did, when the fullness of time had come, take upon himself man’s nature, with all its essential properties and common frailties, yet without sin. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit in the womb of the virgin Mary and of her substance. In this way, two whole natures, the divine and the human, perfect and distinct, were inseparably joined together in one person without being changed, mixed, or confused. This person is truly God and truly man, yet one Christ, the only mediator between God and man.

Song: Jesus Keep Me Near The Cross Hymn 264 v.1-4

Scripture Reading and Prayer for the Church:
Dr. Michael Calvert, Teaching Elder Matthew 7:15-29

Preaching of the Word: Dr. Michael Calvert, Teaching Elder
“The Ninth Commandment: You Shall Not Bear False Witness”
Exodus 20:16; Matthew 5:33-37

Prayer of Confession: Psalm 32:3-5

For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer. I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” and you forgave the iniquity of my sin

Promise of Forgiveness: Psalm 130:3-4

Communion*:

Song: Hark! The Voice of Love and Mercy CCLI# 2793362

Hark, the voice of love and mercy, sounds aloud from Calvary!
See it rends the rocks asunder; shakes the earth and veils the sky!
“It is finished, it is finished,” hear the dying Savior cry.
“It is finished, it is finished,” hear the dying Savior cry.

“It is finished,” o what pleasure do these charming words afford.
Heavenly blessings without measure flow to us from Christ the Lord.
“It is finished, it is finished,” saints the dying words record.
“It is finished, it is finished,” saints the dying words record.

Finished all the types and shadows of the ceremonial law.
Finished all that God had promised, death and hell no more shall awe.
“It is finished, it is finished,” saints from hence your comfort draw.
“It is finished, it is finished,” saints from hence your comfort draw.

Tune your harps anew, ye seraphs, join to sing the pleasing theme
Saints of earth and all in heaven join to praise Immanuel’s name.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Glory to the bleeding lamb!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Glory to the bleeding lamb!

Benediction:

*Professing and baptized members in good standing of a Church in which Jesus Christ is proclaimed as Lord and Savior are warmly invited to join us in the celebration of the Lord’s Supper.
