Order of Worship – July 10 2016

Call to Worship: Psalm 119:105-112

Pastor: Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
People: I have sworn an oath and confirmed it, to keep your righteous rules.
Pastor: I am severely afflicted; give me life, O Lord, according to your word!
People: Accept my freewill offerings of praise, O Lord, and teach me your rules.
Pastor: I hold my life in my hand continually, but I do not forget your law.
People: The wicked have laid a snare for me, but I do not stray from your precepts.
Pastor: Your testimonies are my heritage forever, for they are the joy of my heart.
All: I incline my heart to perform your statutes forever, to the end.

Prayer of Adoration:

Old Testament Lesson: Genesis 28:10-17

Confession of Faith: The Heidelberg Catechism

Q 9. Does not God, then, do injustice to man by requiring of him in His Law that which he cannot perform?
A. No, for God so made man that he could perform it; but man, through the instigation of the devil, by willful disobedience deprived himself and all his descendants of those divine gifts.
Song: In the Shadow of the Glorious Cross – CCLI #5133895

In the shadow of the glorious cross, compelled by grace to cast my lot
I’ll discard the loss and bare your name, forsaking all for your own fame.

Your hymn of grace sung over me, abounding forth in glorious streams
My thirst is quenched by you my Lord, sustained am I, redeemed, restored
Sustained am I, redeemed, restored

CHORUS: Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

When death’s dark shadow’s at my feet, when I am plagued by unbelief
You place my hands into your side, by precious blood identified
By precious blood identified

These crowns I’ve clenched with fisted hands, I cast them down before the throne
Of Christ my God, the worthy lamb, Christ crucified, the Great I AM
Christ crucified, the Great I AM, Christ crucified, the Great I AM

Song: I Need Thee Every Hour – Hymn 674 v.1-3,5

New Testament Lesson: Romans 8:12-17

Confession of Sin: From Psalm 130

Pastor: Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord!
People: O Lord, hear my voice!
Pastor: Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my pleas for mercy!
People: If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?
All: But with you there is forgiveness, that you may be feared.

Assurance of Pardon: Psalm 130:7

Song: Amazing Grace – Hymn 460 v1-3,6

Scripture Reading and Prayer for the Church:
Dr. Bud Lancaster, Ruling Elder – Matthew 24:1-28

Communion*:

Song: In Christ Alone – CCLI #3350395

In Christ alone my hope is found, He is my light, my strength, my song;
this Cornerstone, this solid Ground, firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace, when fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My Comforter, my All in All, here in the love of Christ I stand.

In Christ alone! who took on flesh, Fullness of God in helpless babe!
This gift of love and righteousness, Scorned by the ones he came to save:
Till on that cross as Jesus died, The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid; Here in the death of Christ I live.

There in the ground His body lay, Light of the world by darkness slain:
Then bursting forth in glorious Day, Up from the grave he rose again!
And as He stands in victory, Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me,
For I am His and He is mine, Bought with the precious blood of Christ.

No guilt in life, no fear in death, This is the power of Christ in me;
From life’s first cry to final breath, Jesus commands my destiny.
No power of hell, no scheme of man, Can ever pluck me from His hand;
Till He returns or calls me home, Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand.

Benediction: Numbers 6:24-26

The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace
