Order of Worship – August 14 2016

Call to Worship: Psalm 112:1

Praise the Lord! Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in his commandments!

Old Testament Lesson: Isaiah 12:1-6

Pastor: You will say in that day: “I will give thanks to you, O Lord, for though you were angry with me, your anger turned away, that you might comfort me.”
People: Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the Lord God is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation.”
Pastor: With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. And you will say in that day:
People: “Give thanks to the Lord, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the peoples, proclaim that his name is exalted.”
Pastor: “Sing praises to the Lord, for he has done gloriously; let this be made known in all the earth.”
All: “Shout, and sing for joy, O inhabitant of Zion, for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.”

Song: We Shall Feast in the House of Zion – CCLI #7041364

CHORUS:
We will feast in the house of Zion, we will sing with our hearts restored
“He has done great things” we will say together
we will feast and weep no more

We will not be burned by the fire; He is the Lord our God
We are not consumed by the flood; upheld, protected, gathered up

In the dark of night before the dawn, my soul be not afraid
For the promised morning, oh how long! O God of Jacob, be my strength

Every vow we’ve broken and betrayed, You are the faithful One
And from the garden to the grave, bind us together, bring shalom

Song: I Sing the Almighty Power of God – Hymn 119 v.1-3

New Testament Lesson: Romans 10:5-11

Prayer of Confession and the Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father in heaven hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen

Assurance of Pardon: Psalm 43: 5

Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise Him, my salvation and my God.

Song: Why So Heavy – CCLI# 5543234

Oh why so heavy, oh my soul? Thus to myself I’ve willed
Oh why so heavy, oh my heart? And why so sorrow filled?

CHORUS: Hope thou in God, He still shall be Thy glory and thy endless praise
His saving grace shall comfort thee through everlasting days,

His goodness made thee what thou art and yet will he redeem
Oh be thou of a contrite heart and put your trust in him.

Scripture Reading and Prayer for the Church:
Dr. Michael Calvert, Teaching Elder – Matthew 26:1-19

Confession of Faith: The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father, Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth: And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary: Suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead and buried: He descended into hell: The third day he rose again from the dead: He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty: From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost: The holy universal church: The communion of saints: The forgiveness of sins: The resurrection of the body: And the life everlasting. Amen.

Communion*:

Song: More Love to Thee, O Christ – Hymn 649 v.1,2,4

Benediction: Philippians 4:7

May the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
