Sermon Preview

Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Lord,

As we learned last Lord’s Day, the story of David and Mephibosheth, found in 2 Samuel 9, is one of the most moving events in the life of Israel’s greatest king. And we established the fact that this amazing drama provides us with a wonderful Old Testament portrait of the mercy and love we have received through our Lord Jesus Christ. This coming Sunday, we will get into the details of David’s unique relationship to this crippled son of Jonathan and grandson of Saul. Our text will be 2 Samuel 9:6-13.

As you read and meditate upon this passage, let me ask you to look for some important details which we will explore together on Sunday.

First, notice Mephibosheth’s rather brutal self-assessment in verse 8.

Second, take note of David’s gracious four-fold promise to Mephibosheth:

  • Restoration of his land in verse 7
  • A seat at the king’s table in verse 7
  • All of the wealth of Saul’s former kingdom in verse 9
  • The privilege of reigning over his own servants in verse 10

Third, consider how all of this beautifully foreshadows what has happened to us by means of the unfailing grace and love of God our Father, which has been freely granted to us in His Beloved Son.

I can’t wait to explore God’s Word with you this week!

Results of Our Officer Elections

I am thrilled to report to you that the Church has voted overwhelmingly to elect all four of our Officer Candidates to their respective offices! Daron Drown and Matthew Elliott have been elected to the Office of ruling Elder. Al Bart and John Dragash have been elected to the Office of Deacon. We rejoice that the Lord has once again provided for His Church, and has raised up men who are both gifted and willing to serve the body of Christ! On Sunday May 19, these four brothers will be Ordained and Installed as Officers of the Lord’s Church.

How You Can Help the Huntsville Pregnancy Resource Center

It is only appropriate that this coming Sunday, when we are especially thankful to God for our mothers, that we will have the opportunity to get involved in one of our special mission projects, the Huntsville Pregnancy Resource Center.

As you know, we have partnered with the Center to offer support for their ministry to moms and moms-to-be in Huntsville. This Sunday we will have information available at the Welcome Desk as to how you can be involved in the work of this local ministry. For more information, please see our website or this week’s bulletin.

May our Lord bless you richly!

I love you all so very much,

Mike

Announcements:

HPRC: We are partnering with the Huntsville Pregnancy Resource Center to offer support for their ministry to families in Huntsville. On Mother’s Day we will have information available to determine how you can be involved at the Welcome desk. You can also stop by and pick up a baby bottle to deposit your pocket change (dollars and checks also accepted) every day to collect funds for the center. The bottle can be returned every Sunday in May in the Narthex with the final collection date on Father’s Day. This would make a great project for your children to be involved in, too. Watch for details this summer on an upcoming baby shower to gather baby supplies for the center to help the new mothers. Contact Christina Bagdazian, 256.812.2442, with any questions.

Senior Fellows: On Tuesday, May 29 at 10 AM the Senior Fellows will visit Dave Roesler’s backyard G-scale model train layout at 2605 Spicewood Trail NE, Huntsville (in the Saddlewood area). Carpools will leave the church at 9:30 AM. Kids and grand kids are welcome.

VBS: It is THAT time! I have the signup LIVE for VBS 2019: Summer Seaquest! We will study Jonah and his journey from rebellion to repentance – it’s going to be so great! As always, I need lots of folks willing to step into leadership roles. I cannot do this without you. Last year, we had 70+ kids. Please pray about this! A few reminders about our set-up:

*The age groups are “completed grade,” so for example, preK group is “completed preK” aged children.
*Grade level leaders do NOT have to teach. You are more like a crew leader, taking your group around to the various centers.
*Storytellers stay in one room, dress in costume, and tell one aspect of the bible story each day. They are like “eye witnesses” to give the children a perspective from our story/theme.

We will hold a leadership meeting in May.
