Sermon Preview

Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Lord,

This Lord’s Day our sermon will be part three of our series on ‘Fearfully and Wonderfully Made: Man in the Image of God.’ So far, we have looked at the image of God in creation, and we have considered the Biblical teaching on what this image is and its vast implications for our lives.

This Sunday we will examine Genesis 3:6, and we will be addressing the image of God and the fall, and how mankind’s sin against God has distorted and damaged this image. The question we will be grappling with is, in what ways has our sin against God affected our humanity?

As you know, our current Adult Sunday School class is designed to coincide with our sermon series. And this week, we will be discussing the effects of the fall upon our bodies and our desires, as well as probing the mysterious nature of temptation itself.

In preparation for both our Sunday School Class and the sermon, let me encourage you to reflect upon Genesis 3:1-20; Romans 1:18-32; James 1:13-15.

Once again let me ask that you pray fervently for our Marriage Enrichment Conference tonight with Rev. Nate Shurden. We look forward to a wonderful time of encouragement, instruction, and fellowship around God’s Word!

Also, for all our Middle and High School Students we will have our Youth Bible Study this Sunday from 4:30-6:15 PM at the Church.

Following our study, any and all of our Youth are invited to attend a showing of the movie ‘Overcomer’ for free! The movie starts at 7:15 PM at the Valley Bend Theaters (the link to the movie’s website is below where you can learn all about this Christian film). Please contact Ken Burnett for further details or any questions.

I love you all, and can’t wait to see you on Sunday!!

Counselor’s Corner:

On occasion someone will ask me what books I might give to someone struggling with grief and loss.  This is certainly not a bad question at all.  After all, there are a myriad of resources on the issue, many of them having the potential to greatly encourage, describe expectations and provide helpful guidance in the midst of pain. Yet, it is also good for us to consider what books I ought to read as I consider helping those struggling with grief and loss.  In this post, we describe three resources that you might consider reading as you approach family and friends dealing with the pain of loss.
