Sermon Preview:

My Beloved Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I have always been intrigued by the clever title of a wonderful book on preaching by Dr. Robert Smith Jr., professor of preaching at Beeson Divinity School (in Birmingham, AL). He calls it, Doctrine That Dances: Bringing Doctrinal Preaching and Teaching to Life.

The main point that Dr. Smith so brilliantly makes is that the great doctrines of the Christin faith must be proclaimed, believed, and put into practice. As he says it, the Christian faith must not only be about believing in “ the streets of gold in heaven” (doctrine), but must have something vital to do with “ the pavement” upon which we now walk (practice). The New Jerusalem above must be united with Hampton Cove and Huntsville here below!

Well, this is what we are trying to do with our series of messages from Romans 12. We are seeking to better understand that critical and essential link between heaven and earth. To use Dr. Smith’s language, our doctrine must dance!

This Sunday and the next two (July 4 and 11), we are going to be ‘slow dancing’ though Romans 12:1-2. It would be difficult to name another two-verse section of the New Testament more densely packed with truth than this passage! So we’re going to take our sweet time as we examine every word.

Our focus this Sunday will be upon our “ bodies” (v. 1). We will discover the critical importance of our physical flesh and blood for our daily Christian walk (or our ‘dance’!).

Don’t Forget! There Will Be a Special Q&A Opportunity With the Building Committee Immediately Following Worship This Sunday

Please stay for a few minutes after worship for a time of questions and answers with our Building Committee. They will be happy to address any questions or concerns that you may have about the plans for the construction of a new Education Annex. And please continue to pray that the Building Committee, our Diaconate, and the Session might have God’s wisdom as we consider this plan.

I love you all so much and pray for you always!

Mike

Announcements:

Summer Worship Time Change:

Continuing throughout the summer, Sunday worship will begin at 9:30 AM in the Sanctuary. At 9 a.m. we have our coffee, snack and fellowship time just off the Narthex. We are serving special snacks to the children in the fellowship room at the same time. Parents, please encourage your children to enjoy their snacks where they are served.

Sharon O’Neil Memorial Service:

We will have Sharon O’Neil’s memorial  service at the Church on Saturday June 26, at 10:00 AM. Visitation with the family will follow the memorial service.

Psummer Psalms:

I’m happy to announce that we will continue the tradition of our Psummer Psalms for the 4th straight year!

Please join us for an afternoon/evening of reciting Psalms followed by some food and fellowship. Everyone of any age is invited to memorize one entire Psalm this summer and then come together Sunday afternoon, August 15th, for a recitation and dinner.

Recitation can be individual, or together in a group or family.

Simple steps:

1)  Pick a Psalm, any Psalm
2)  Memorize it
3)  Recite it on Aug 15th, to God’s glory

It’s fine if multiple people pick the same Psalm. This happens every year!

As we get closer to Aug 15, I will send out more details about the event and get you to send me the Psalm you have memorized.

Join us by sending an email to schnorrenberg@gmail.com for periodic encouragement and accountability.

Youth Group:

We are having a youth fellowship this Sunday evening (June 27th) from 4:30 to 6. We will play some Angle Ball and then have some pizza. We will meet up in the church house and will try to play in the shade since summer is heating up. There is a slight chance of rain and will notify you all if the plans get shifted due to weather.

All incoming youth for this Fall are welcome to come. We would love to have new youth come and join us for some fun and fellowship. Also, if any parents are feeling athletic, adventurous, and desirous to play, you are also welcome to come and join the fun.

We will probably start eating around 5:30 or so and will wrap up around 6.

We look forward to seeing everyone then. Take care.

Children’s Ministry:

A note from Amanda, our Nursery Coordinator:

First, a huge thank you to those you have volunteered in our nursery during Sunday worship over the past couple of months. It has been a great blessing to our children, nursery staff, and families.

I have created a new sign up extending through the summer months so please click on the link below if you would like to help in the nursery in the coming weeks. Don’t forget our new worship schedule this summer! Since service will begin at 9:30 as of May 30th, we ask that you arrive in the nursery at 9:15 to help welcome our children in. More details can be viewed on the sign up page.

If you have any questions or comments, please reach out to Amanda Dean or Ashley Turnbull. It has been such a blessing as a parent to see our church as a whole lovingly take part in helping raise our children in a way that points them to their Creator. Thank you all!

Love,
Amanda Dean
