A Guided Tour of the Heavenly Temple
In the final section of the massive prophecy of Ezekiel (chapters 40-48), we discover the last great vision that the Lord gave to the exiled preacher living among the captive Israelites in Babylon. The book closes with nine chapters that are full of intricate details that provided the Israelites with a captivating picture of a magnificent new land, a new city, and a new temple! But before Ezekiel shared this vision with the exiles, he first had to take a guided tour of this new land himself, along with its capital city and its stunningly beautiful new temple.
In Ezekiel 40:1-4, we see how this came about, and we are introduced to a visual sermon that Ezekiel would be ordered to proclaim to his people. This ‘picture-sermon’ would provide the captives with a foretaste of the future that would sustain them even during the hardest times that lay ahead for them.
On Sunday, we will get acquainted with this final vision granted to the prophet, and we will take a tour with him as Ezekiel is guided by an angel along the way. As we consider these chapters over the next few Sundays, let me encourage you to begin reading Ezekiel 40-48. This will surely be an unforgettable tour!
