A Prayer for the Church

Series:
Passage: Colossians 1:9-12
Service Type:

If we could have listened in on the prayers of the Apostle Paul as he wrestled before the Lord on behalf of those fellow-believers in Christ that he loved so much, what would we have heard? What would he have desired for them? What would he seek the Lord for on their behalf? What did he believe they needed more than anything in all of the world, and more than any other blessing that God might give them?

Well, we don’t have to speculate about this for long, for we have the written record of exactly what Paul so desperately wanted for his brothers and sisters in Christ. We find his prayer preserved for us in Colossians 1:9-12.

As we examine this passage on Sunday, we will identify three major requests that the Apostle mentions in his prayer for the Colossian Christians:

First, Paul prays that they will all be filled with the knowledge of God’s will (v. 9).

Second, he prays that they would all live in a way that pleases the Lord (v. 10).

Third, Paul prays that they would all be divinely strengthened for endurance and patience (vv. 11-12).

But, because this is the living and abiding Word of God, what Paul desired in prayer for those believers serving the Lord in Colossae two-thousand years ago is also an inspired list of things that we need today! Here is an Apostolic prayer for Christ Presbyterian Church and for all of us who are in Christ Jesus!
