David: How God Chooses a King
This coming Lord’s Day our journey through some of the great events in the history of redemption continues as we will begin to investigate the man named David. And when we hear that name, David, there are a host of things that flood into our minds, especially for those who have come to know something of the Bible and of the Old Testament.
Of course, David, the great king of Israel, is one of the central figures not only in the Old Covenant Scriptures, but in all of the Word of God as well. So for the next several weeks, we are going to trace some of the major episodes in his amazing life. And this Sunday we will be examining the very beginnings of his story as he became the second king in the history of Israel.
There are two specific things we want to accomplish as our initial look at David commences. First, we are simply going to get familiar with the Biblical record of how he came to be the king of Israel in the first place. But then, we are going to use the bulk of our time on Sunday morning considering why this man called David is so important for the story of the Old Testament, and, even more significantly, for the story of salvation that has its consummation in the life and ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ.
