Forgive Us our Sins
The fourth petition in the Lord’s Prayer, as recorded by Luke, is that our Father might “forgive us our sins” (Luke 11:4). This request is actually composed of two parts. The first is that we might be forgiven. The second is that we might extend this forgiveness to others.
This coming Lord’s Day, we will look carefully at the first part of this model prayer. As you examine it, you might have a few of questions springing into your mind. Why do we need to pray this prayer if we are already forgiven by God? Haven’t all of our sins already been atoned for once-and-for-all on the cross of Christ? Does our ongoing forgiveness require confession of our sins, many which we may not even be aware of?
As we probe this part of Holy Scripture, we will be taken deep into the glorious wonder and power of our Lord’s cross and the depth of His love. We will also discover the ‘secret’ to finding fresh joy and assurance each day as we serve our great King and High Priest!
