Our Great High Priest: Part Three
It will be our great joy once again this Lord’s Day to gather in worship before our wonderful and sovereign King! As we begin preparing our hearts for worship, let me encourage you to reflect upon the magnificent passage from Hebrews 4 that we have been investigating through our recent sermons.
You will remember that in Hebrews 4:14-16, the author of this inspired letter is telling us all about the “ great high priest” that we now have, ever serving before the Father’s holy throne on our behalf. And we have been exploring what it is, precisely, that makes Him “ great.” In this passage we have identified four characteristics of our Lord’s priesthood that combine to make Him the greatest of all!
Last Sunday we examined the first of the four, that He has “ passed through the heavens.” This Sunday, we will consider the remaining three attributes of Christ’s eternal and magnificent priesthood: He is none other than the “ Son of God;” He is “ without sin;” and because He has faithfully endured every temptation we face, He is able to “ sympathize with our weaknesses.”
