Our High Priest Forever
Our sermon this Sunday will come from Hebrews 5:5-6. And we will learn more about how our Lord Jesus serves as our Great High Priest.
As you get familiar with this text (and through 5:10), you will see that there are three key terms in these two verses. We discover that Jesus our Lord is God’s “ Son,” who is “ begotten,” and is our High Priest “ forever.”
On the surface, these words seem simple enough, for we are very familiar with how Scripture uses them frequently to describe our Lord. We know that He is the only-begotten Son of God, and that He is eternal. But we need to embrace the full weight of these terms as we consider how Jesus serves as a Priest who is superior to Aaron in every way.
As you prepare for the message, let me encourage you to begin reading at Hebrews 5:1 and read on through to 7:28. And then we will come together once more on the Lord’s Day to worship our God and to hear His Holy Word proclaimed.
